Benchmarks

Here are some results of benchmarking done on two ATi cards and two nVidia cards.

ATi cards have solid leads over the nVidia counterparts pretty much throughout all the combinations of resolutions and AA. The large numbers are a bit deceptive as the performance really lags in certain areas of the game and is buoyed up a bit artificially in other parts that render very fast.

Conclusions

Tomb Raider is an interesting benchmark utility if nothing else. Beyond3D has done a great job in documenting the v49 patch and the different graphical settings available and their effects. For those readers that are not adverse to some technical explanations and have some free time, take a look at the article as it is well worth your while. Though it does have some issues, Tomb Raider is a great DX9 benchmark that shows off some cool graphical effects. Hopefully we will see the benchmarking utility included again in future patches.
